A dictionary definition of a network might read something like:
a group or system of interconnected people or things.
Similarly a computer network is a group or system of interconnected computing devices. This is likely to include desktop computers (commonly called workstations in a network), printers, wireless devices such as tablets, smartphones, and a wide variety of other computing devices. Just as in a team of people which is able to make use of the specialisations of each of the members of the team when they work together to be more effective than any one of them working alone, the devices in a computer network all work together to be more useful than they can be on their own. Computing devices share data and resources in a network to allow more work to be done.
A computing device which is not attached to a network is called a standalone device and they used to be common but it is increasingly difficult to imagine a computing device which is not connected to a network.
